Currumbin Eco-Parkland
The Queensland Government has honoured its 2020 election promise to the community to acquire 148 hectares of land on the Southern Gold Coast, now known as Currumbin Eco-Parkland. The Queensland Government has honoured its 2020 election promise to the community to acquire 148 hectares of land on the Southern Gold Coast, now known as Currumbin Eco-Parkland. The project will ensure the land in Currumbin will be appreciated for generations to come and create one of the largest eco-parklands in Australia.
The site was acquired on 30 November 2021 and a community engagement process began on 22 December 2021 to seek community feedback and help guide the preparation of a master plan for the site. Economic Development Queensland will continue to lead delivery, given the proposed involvement of other State agencies and Council.
The site presents opportunities for the preservation and rehabilitation of the natural environment including flood plain storage and endangered ecosystems.
The Currumbin Eco-Parkland project comprises 148 hectares of land within the Currumbin Valley. Concept planning for the parkland has commenced and once completed will include:
- Sporting and recreational elements for family and community enjoyment
- Protections for local koala habitats, including fodder eucalypt plantation
- Nature based recreational trails; and
- Opportunities for rehabilitation and appreciation of the natural environment through eco-tourism.
EDQ has engaged with the community to help inform development of a master plan.
Engagement to date:
- 22 December 2021 – What are your thoughts? A survey and interactive options plans were launched.
- 23 March 2022 – Face-to-face meeting held with groups who have environmental interests. Meeting notes are available under the Library tab.
- 13 April 2022 - Pop-up display - The Elanora Pines Shopping Centre
- 27 April 2022 – Meeting held with community members who have sporting and recreational interests. Presentations and meeting notes are available under the Library tab.
- 2 June 2022 - Meeting held with those who registered an Expression of Interest to participate in a session and members of the general community. Meeting notes from the session are available under the Library tab.
- 5 August 2022 – Ecology Workshop conducted onsite.
- 10 September 2022 – Enquiry-by-Design (EBD) Workshop was held involving members of the local community, key stakeholders, and members from environmental and sporting groups. The EBD summary report is available under the Library tab.

How you can get involved:
The engagement process for the master plan has now closed.
The team of technical experts is now considering all feedback gathered to date to develop a final master plan.

Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development Steven Miles said the acquisition of what is known locally as Martha’s Farm or Martha’s Vineyard, delivers on an election commitment to the local community.
