Transforming our regional economies - Central Queensland
Investing in new industries
We want Queensland to be recognised as a leader in renewable energy, creating new opportunities and jobs as the world moves to clean energy.
We are investing $200 million in the Regional Economic Futures Fund, a new program to support regional communities to use their existing strengths to provide the materials, products and services needed as we transition to renewable energy. It is part of our strategy to develop new industries from the opportunities presented by increasing demand for cleaner, greener, and more responsibly sourced products.
Central Queensland is a priority region for funding
The regions being funded are those with unique opportunities to support new industries like critical minerals, renewable energy, hydrogen and biofuels. We are also supporting communities that rely on traditional energy production for jobs and economic growth.
Your region is a focus for renewable energy production and has been identified as one of three renewable energy zones. In particular, Gladstone, one of Queensland’s industrial powerhouses, is growing our hydrogen production. The region is a key part of Queensland's clean energy efforts, maximising job and economic benefits for these communities.
We want to hear from you
If you live, work or own a business in this region, we want to understand your economic and social aspirations. We want these communities to stay vibrant and to take advantage of clean energy opportunities. We also want to understand potential challenges in achieving these goals.
Your feedback will help us develop regionally specific transformation strategies and allocate funding to projects that will help create jobs and support your region’s economy in the long term. You can participate by:
- completing the online survey
- adding suggestions to our regional ideas map.
