The Far North Queensland Regional Plan is being reviewed throughout 2023 and 2024.
This region includes the local government areas:
- Cairns Regional Council
- Cassowary Coast Regional Council
- Cook Shire Council (partially – south east corner of Cook Shire including Cooktown and Lakeland)
- Douglas Shire Council
- Etheridge Shire Council
- Mareeba Shire Council
- Tablelands Regional Council
- Wujal Wujal Aboriginal Shire Council
- Yarrabah Aboriginal Shire Council

Reviewing the Far North Queensland Regional Plan will require the ongoing involvement of the local government, industries, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island communities and the broader community.
That is why the department is undertaking a series of engagement activities and events during the review period including (but not limited to):
- Regional workshops and pop-up sessions
- Community online survey
- One-on-one meetings with key stakeholders
- Working group meetings with local governments, state agencies, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples, and industry representatives
