Breakfast Creek Sports Precinct, Albion, Concept Plan

The Queensland Government is committed to developing a Concept Plan for the Breakfast Creek Sports Precinct in Albion that will deliver a key venue for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and create a sustainable legacy for the community and for the State of Queensland.

Early planning is underway, and the Queensland Government has been working closely with Brisbane City Council, the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee and key sporting institutions to develop a plan for the precinct that meets the expectations of the site partners and the broader community. The plan will build on the aspirations set out in Brisbane City Council’s Concept Plan released last year, and will be informed by collaborative consultation with site partners, sporting bodies, and feedback from the broader community.

The Concept Plan area includes the Albion Park Paceway and Crosby Park, which is currently home to a number of leading Queensland sporting institutions, including Racing Queensland, the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission, Queensland Cricket and the Brothers Rugby Club. The State Government continues to work with Racing Queensland regarding their future plans.

The intention for this precinct renewal is to increase indoor and outdoor sporting facilities, create more publicly accessible green spaces, and explore opportunities to increase housing supply. Albion is an iconic lifestyle and commercial centre in Brisbane’s inner-north which is undergoing significant revitalisation, and this precinct renewal will support economic and environmental outcomes for existing and new residents and businesses.

Breakfast Creek Indoor Sports Centre

It is proposed that the Concept Plan for the sports precinct will include a new key venue, the Breakfast Creek Indoor Sports Centre (BCISC), that will deliver a 12-court, high performance and para-sport facility within a thriving precinct servicing the growing community for decades to come. The new centre will be suitable for sports such as basketball, netball, volleyball, goal ball and badminton, and could host local, national and international sports events all year round.

It is anticipated that the BCISC would host the Olympic basketball and Paralympic wheelchair basketball, and would include two temporary warm up courts adjacent to the competition hall.

Stakeholder and community consultation

Community input into this planning process is important as the Queensland Government plan for the future of the Breakfast Creek Sports Precinct, Albion, as a vibrant lifestyle and commercial centre in Brisbane’s inner-north.
